Raytheon Emirates panel discusses women’s role in shaping the future

Panelists also discussed the important role these women have in inspiring young females to pursue STEM education and careers

DUBAI-Raytheon Emirates, a Raytheon Technologies subsidiary, hosted a “Women in Tech: Preparing for the Next Fifty Years” panel on the role of women shaping the future. The discussion placed focus on fostering inclusion, tolerance and equality in the workplace.

Participants of the virtual forum explored how female leaders can bolster business within the UAE and internationally. Panelists also discussed the important role these women have in inspiring young females to pursue STEM education and careers.

“The UAE has adopted a path of tolerance, moderation and acceptance of diversity all while taking remarkable strides toward empowering women to flourish in a meritocratic society,” said Hanan Harhara Al Yafei, Hub71 chief executive officer. “With its progressive government, open business policies, and flexible working arrangements, the UAE offers female entrepreneurs’ incredible opportunities to thrive.”

 Alan Davis, Raytheon Emirates chief executive, moderated the discussion with Hanan Harhara Al Yafei serving as the guest keynote speaker and panelist. Other panel members included:

  • Bushra AlBalooshi, head of Research and Innovation at Dubai Electronic Security Center (DESC).
  • Barbara Borgonovi, vice president of Intelligence Surveillance & Reconnaissance Systems at Raytheon Intelligence & Space.
  • Mona Bates, vice president of Digital Technology and Chief Information Officer at Raytheon Missiles & Defense.
  • Fatma Bazargan, director of Cybersecurity at Raytheon Emirates.

“Dialogue discussing barriers and misconceptions existing for women in the workplace is critical in helping them reach their career aspirations and maximize their professional development,” said Davis. “As business leaders, we have an obligation to foster a culture that respects, values and empowers women without obstacles.”

Through a series of public and private sector initiatives, women are playing an increasingly stronger role in industries including aerospace and defense, technology and business. Raytheon Emirates is committed to fostering a diverse multi-national workforce.
